Abstract
Tourism text is an important reference material for foreign tourists to understand the background of the destination and impact the tourist experience very much. The tourism text translation is not only a simple word for word translation process, but it is intercultural communication activity. Improper tourism text in English may be easier for native Chinese people to understand but is usually weird for those without Chinese cultural default, which highlights the importance of translation compensatory approach research.
Through the discussion of several examples, this article analyses cultural default phenomenon and gives some translation compensatory approaches to reduce the influence of the cultural default in the tourism texts translation process.
