Research into Jane’s Personality in Jane Eyre
Abstract
Jane Eyre is a masterpiece of Charlotte Bronte who is a British novelist, the eldest of the three famous Bronte sisters whose novels have become standards of English literature. The novel mainly tells a British orphan girl’s miserable life first at her aunt’s house and then in the school. Through her own efforts, Jane gradually becomes a girl of self-independent, self-improvement and self-esteem. There are four chapters in this thesis. In the introduction part, the author explains the famous of Jane Eyre all over the world. It is one of the most influential and famous of English novels. In the first chapter, analyses the critical researches into Jane Eyre both at home and abroad. In the second chapter, mainly surveys the specific personalities of Jane. Jane’s characteristics are developing throughout its entire process, from immature to mature and from irrational to rational. Therefore, this part pays attention to the multiple qualities of Jane, who is rebellious spirit, independent, self-respect, kindness and courageous pursuit of herself true love. The last chapter of thesis, the conclusion, summarizes Jane’s personalities in Jane Eyre and indicates the significance and values of studying this brilliant novel.
