Abstract
Different cultural backgrounds in China and the west lead to different interpretations of the same culture, among which the dragon culture is one. Chinese and western people have different understandings on the origin of dragon, the symbolic meaning of dragon and the formation of dragon culture. In China, the dragon is considered a symbol of auspiciousness and authority and a symbol of the Chinese nation. But in the eyes of westerners, the spread of the dragon through Greek myths and biblical stories is a symbol of the devil and the bugbear. Through the comparison and analysis of the differences between Chinese and western dragon culture, this paper discusses the influence of different cultural backgrounds on the formation and development of dragon culture. It aims to let people have a deeper understanding and communication of dragon culture in intercultural communication.
