Abstract
The introductory translation of scenic spots plays an important role in showing its beautiful landscapes and telling its backgrounds to foreign tourists. Normative and suitable translated words of a scenic spot can not only reveal its planning and management level in tourism industry, but also improve the international image & level of the whole city. In this paper, by combining descriptive translation theory and the Nord’s functionalist translation theory, taking the scenic spot of West Lake in Hangzhou for examples, let us discuss about the exist translations in West Lake scenic area, and try to understand the what the translators exactly want to express to us. Hope this study can attract the attention of the English lovers to pay more attention on the translation problems when they are traveling in Hangzhou West Lake scenic area, and give out their suggestions if they have. It will surely help the related department to improve the whole translation level in West lake scenic area, and help to promote the development of international tourism industry in Hangzhou, and finally, it will raise the international image of the West Lake and Hangzhou.
