Abstract
With the continuous improvement and enrichment of people's spiritual and cultural life, many excellent foreign films and TV works have come into people's vision. At the same time, many excellent Chinese films and TV works have also gone out of the country. Because of the cultural differences between the East and the West, we must take into account the cultural background and language habits of different countries in the process of translation. . With the development of society, the film and television industry is also marching to appear on TV screens in various countries, which involves subtitle translation. What is subtitle translation? Subtitle translation can be divided into intralingual subtitle translation and interlingual subtitle translation. Subtitling refers to the process of translating discourse into text without changing the language. Interlingual subtitle translation is the process of translating characters'dialogues and necessary visual information into the target language while retaining the original sound, and simultaneously overlaying the target language at the bottom of the picture. Its purpose is to maximize the transmission of semantic information, to help the audience across language barriers, to understand the story. Subtitle translation usually refers to inter language subtitle translation. Film and TV subtitles, as a unique form of text - audio-visual media text, its main function is to provide certain linguistic information for the audience, translators should adopt appropriate translation strategies in order to achieve the desired goal of film and TV subtitles translation. This paper intends to analyze the subtitle translation of film and TV carefully with the analysis method of German functionalist translation theory.
