Abstract
Gone with the wind is one of the outstanding masterpieces which is written by American writer----- Margaret Mitchell, it is popular all over the world. It describes the changes of people’s lives during the war in America. Scarlet is the main character that is full of conflict and feminism. It introduces the background of writer and Scarlet’s brief. It analyzes the feminism of Scarlet in four aspects. First, Scarlet is always against for the restriction from the society. She behaves differently from the other women when she has to face the difficulties and challenges without choice. Second, her attitude of marriage is mixed by realism and idealism. She dreams to marry with Ashley; she doesn’t know clearly what she really wants or need. Third, as a weak woman, Scarlet always acts more bravely and optimistic than men even though in the tragic life after war. At the end of the novel, it pointed out that Scarlet’s feminism has deep influence on the women’s sense of worth in American society.
