Abstract
Jane Austen was a great English novelist at the turn of eighteenth and nineteenth century，and Pride and Prejudice is regarded as her best novel. In the work，she disclosed the life of the middle class and upper class in Britain mainly by describing many kinds of marriages of different young men and women. There are four couples’ marriages: Collins and Charlotte’s barren marriage; Wickham and Lydia’s indiscreet marriage; Bingley and Jane’s almost missed marriage; Darcy and Elizabeth’s happy marriage. Through the work, she expressed her own progressive view of marriage in that special time. She pointed out marriage is not determined by property and social status. It is unwise to marry without money, but it is wrong to marry for money. She emphasized marriage should be of equal importance both by love and by economic consideration, but love plays the guiding role (王秋霁, 2013). In view of Jane Austen's work is of great realistic significance to our society today, combined with the background of writing, this paper aims to analyze the four young couples' marriages to explore the influencing factor of marriage in Pride and Prejudice, a happy marriage is based on love which influenced by sensibility and rationality，and only morality can harmonize the two.
